My dad said my glue technique was wrong and now I do it his way

I've been using construction adhesive on baseboards for years just by running a bead down the center. My dad watched me on a job in Harrisburg last month and told me to do a zigzag pattern instead so it spreads better under pressure. He's been doing trim work since 1985, so who am I to argue with that? Anyone else have a family member who called out their method and ended up being right?

Wait, 1985? That's wild because that's around when they started switching from the really heavy stuff to the lighter MDF, right? Your dad probably saw a ton of new installers mess up with that material too. That zigzag trick makes total sense for the thinner MDF panels now.

At 1985 he saw the shift from wood to MDF, did he mention if the zigzag helps more with that or just the spreading? I'm curious if he's got a reason for that change.

Might be onto something though, that zigzag pattern sounds wild.

The 45 degree zigzag on a gauge block worked best for me when I was balancing some old cabinets from the 80s. Ended up way more stable than the straight line method I tried first.
