My miter saw kicked back on a $90 oak board and I stood there like an idiot
Was cutting a 6 ft piece of red oak on my miter saw in the garage last Saturday and the blade grabbed it. The board shot back and cracked my shop light, and I just stood there with my ears ringing. I had been rushing because I wanted to sand before dinner. I shut the saw off, sat on the floor for 10 minutes, then dug out my old scrap plywood and built a proper stop block setup before touching another cut. What do you all use to keep long boards from grabbing, clamps or a sacrificial fence?
My buddy had the same thing happen with a piece of maple, thing flew past his head and stuck in the drywall. He switched to a stop block clamped to a sacrificial fence and hasn't had a problem since. Long boards need support on both ends too, that's half the battle.
