My neighbor yelled at me for using pressure treated wood on my deck railing...

Turns out PT wood can warp and crack in the sun way faster than cedar. Had to rip it all out and start over, cost me $180 extra... anyone else get burned by bad lumber advice?

Man, I gotta push back on this a little. Pressure treated wood is fine for deck railings if you know what you're doing. I've had PT railings up on my back porch for six years and they're still straight, no cracks. The trick is to buy the good stuff from a real lumber yard, not the wet trash from the big box stores. You gotta let it dry for a month before you install it, or yeah, it'll warp on you like crazy. Sounds like your neighbor might've given you half the story.

Read somewhere that kiln-dried PT is way better than the wet stuff, less shrinkage too.

Yeah kiln-dried PT is worth the extra money for railing work.
