Rant: tore out my kitchen floor on a Saturday and found 3 layers of old tile hiding a surprise
Decided to pull up the peel and stick tile in my kitchen in Boise on a Saturday morning, thinking it would take maybe 4 hours. Underneath was sheet vinyl, then a layer of 1950s asbestos looking tile, and then a swollen subfloor from a slow leak that had clearly been going for a long time. I spent $340 at the hardware store on plywood and screws plus a respirator, and the whole thing turned into a 3 day job instead of a weekend. My contractor buddy told me I got lucky it wasn't worse. Anyone else find a hidden layer that turned a small project into a whole thing?
