The $180 heated floor kit I ripped out after one winter

I bought one of those DIY electric floor heat mats for a small bathroom reno, figured it would be cozy for guests. After a season the thermostat started flickering and one zone just died, so I tore it all out and went back to a regular rug. Anyone else find these kits more trouble than they're worth?

We put those mats in two bathrooms around five years back and they're still going strong, but I made sure to buy the ones with the thicker wire and a solid thermostat, not the cheapest option. The key for us was having an electrician put in a dedicated circuit for them, because overloaded wires seem to be what kills those systems. Sorry yours fizzled out though, a bad zone is a real pain to dig up once the tile's down...
