The way everyone levels shower pans is totally backwards

I keep seeing DIY videos where they put the preslope on top of the liner and I swear it traps water. Did a bathroom reno in my 1920s house in Cleveland and noticed mold after 6 months - had to rip out the whole pan and start over. The right way is preslope under the liner, then a final slope on top so water actually drains to the weep holes. Anyone else run into this or am I the only one who cares about rot?

Hold on, you said "found mold after 6 months" like that's normal?

Oh come on, is it really that big of a deal? I mean yeah mold is gross but half the showers out there have some kind of moisture issue and people don't die from it. You probably just had a leaky grout line or something.

Actually came across a study a while back that showed some black mold can release mycotoxins into the air. Most of the time it's harmless, sure, but there's a reason hospitals take it so seriously. People with asthma or weak immune systems can get really sick from it, like respiratory issues that don't go away. Maybe your friend just had bad luck with the type of mold or the ventilation in that bathroom. Has anyone in that house been having random sinus problems or coughing fits?
