Tried painting my kitchen cabinets with a foam roller instead of a brush

I decided to give my 1980s oak cabinets a facelift last month in Austin. Used a fine-finish foam roller from Home Depot for the flat panels and it came out looking like orange peel texture instead of smooth. Learned the hard way that foam rollers trap too much air in latex paint, need to go back with a high-density microfiber roller to fix it. Has anyone else dealt with this weird texture problem on cabinet doors?

...and that's how you accidentally create a custom orange peel texture, congrats (not the fun kind of custom, obviously). Foam rollers are the devil when it comes to cabinet paint, they work great for like...smooth walls maybe? I swear every time I try one it just makes a mess. You're right about the microfiber roller though, that's the magic ticket for getting that smooth finish without the weird bumpy nightmare. Good luck fixing it, at least it's not like you're painting the whole kitchen in one day, right? (Right?)

Waited till I was almost done with a whole set of kitchen cabinets to realize the foam roller was just making things worse. Had to sand everything down and start over with microfiber, what a waste of a weekend.
