Update: a guy at the ReStore in Cleveland told me to buy the ugly cabinets and I finally get it
I was digging through the cabinet pile at the ReStore over on Euclid looking for something with decent doors, and this older guy next to me said the pretty ones are already picked over so grab the beat up ones and just reface them. I blew him off at the time, then last weekend I finally tried it on a small pantry redo, bought three oak uppers for $45 total, sanded the frames, and slapped on new doors I built from 1x3 poplar. The boxes are dead solid, way better than the particle board junk at the big box stores, and nobody sees a thing behind a door anyway. Now I walk right past the nice looking stuff and head for the scratched up piles. Has anyone else had good luck refacing old ReStore boxes, or do you just pass on them completely?
