Warning: I spent $180 on a 'professional' paint sprayer for my kitchen cabinets and it was a total disaster.

After three days of cleaning overspray off my floors and windows, I had to strip it all and roll it by hand anyway, so has anyone else found a sprayer that actually works for a first timer?

Damn that sucks, sorry you had to deal with that mess. What kind of sprayer was it, like a cheap HVLP from a big box store? Also, did you thin the paint at all or just try to spray it straight from the can? That's usually where first timers get wrecked.

I've seen that happen when the paint can sat in a cold garage before spraying, @beng51. The material gets too thick and the sprayer just sputters no matter how much you thin it later.

Yeah, that cold paint thing is a real killer. Read a whole forum thread once where a guy ruined a cabinet job because his shop was too cold overnight. The advice was always to warm the paint can in a bucket of warm water, not hot, for like twenty minutes before you even think about thinning. Thinning cold paint just makes a weird separated mess that never sprays right. Gotta get the base material back to room temp first or you're just fighting a losing battle.
