Why does nobody talk about how drywall tape bubbles up over time

Found out from a forum last week that paper tape can start peeling after 5-7 years if you didn't use enough mud underneath. Checked my own bathroom ceiling and sure enough, there's bubbles in 3 spots. Anyone deal with this before and just patch it or tear it all out?

Peel back one layer and you'll find a dozen more things that were done halfway in every old house. It's wild how many shortcuts we just accept as normal until the proof literally bubbles up at you.

Killz and drylok are your best friends for basement walls, just make sure you scrape off all the loose paint first or it'll peel right off again.

Scrape off all the loose paint first" - yeah that's the part nobody wants to hear until they're staring at a big peeling mess. I actually just watched a video from some old house restoration guy on YouTube who said most basement waterproofing fails because people skip the prep. He was going on about how you gotta use a wire brush and maybe even a pressure washer if the paint is really bad. I tried it on my dad's basement last summer and man, he was right. We spent like three hours just scraping and scrubbing but the Killz actually stayed put. It's boring work but beats repainting every six months.
