Am I the only one who thinks caulking the tub is NOT a yearly job? Guy at Ace in Boise laughed at me for saying mine lasts 9 years | DIY Home Projects - Freelance Forum - The Community for Independent Professionals
What does the guy at Ace consider "yearly" though? Is he saying you should scrape out the old stuff and redo the whole seam every 12 months, or just touch up spots that pull away? Nine years sounds long, but I've seen tubs where the caulk stayed put forever because the guy prepped it right and never let water sit on the ledge. So the real question is what you did that he didn't: did you fill the tub with water before caulking, use 100% silicone instead of the cheap latex stuff, clean with alcohol first? Because if it's a how you did it thing and not a how often thing, that guy owes you an apology more than advice.
