Just found out the average person spends 4 hours a week on paint prep alone
Was reading through some old Fine Homebuilding issues my dad had stacked up and saw a stat that stuck with me. Apparently the average DIYer puts in about 200 hours on paint prep for a whole house repaint. Thats like 5 full work weeks just taping and sanding before you even open a can. Made me feel a lot better about how long my living room took last spring. Anyone else ever track how much time you spend prepping vs actually painting?

My buddy spent a whole weekend taping one room before he even picked up a brush.

Same here. Spent three days on a tiny bedroom because the previous owner painted right onto the trim with no tape. Ended up scraping and retaping every single edge before I even bought primer. Felt like a total waste of time until the final lines came out perfect.

And then you notice a tiny drip you missed and it all feels worth it anyway.
