Just learned a trick from an old timer at the lumber yard about cutting warped boards

He told me to always cut with the curve facing up on the saw table, not down, and it saved me from wasting a 12-foot oak board last weekend. Has anyone else had luck with that method or got other tips for handling crooked lumber?

Yeah that trick works, cuts way cleaner too.

Totally agree @grantc80. Way cleaner edges every time.

Oh man that's a great tip! I actually read something in Fine Woodworking a few years back that explained the physics behind it - something about the saw blade pinching less when the board's cupped side is up. Makes sense when you think about it, the waste side takes all the tension. @bell.jessica mentioned cleaner edges and that's exactly what I noticed too, especially on figured maple where tearout is a nightmare. The old timer I talked to at the hardware store said the same thing about keeping your push stick angled in tight on the high side of the curve.
