My attic ladder install made the hallway ceiling sag 2 inches
I put in a telescoping attic ladder from a big box store last month, nothing crazy, but I skipped adding a header across the joists because it looked fine from below. A week later the drywall around the opening started cracking and the hallway ceiling dipped about 2 inches near the hallway closet. Turned out the joists were only 2x6s and the new opening cut the support completely, so I had to brace it with a 4x6 post that now sits awkwardly in the corner. Anybody else forget the math on load distribution and end up with a permanent pillar in a weird spot?

Yikes, 2x6s barely hold a ceiling. I read joists get tricky when you notch them.
