My bathroom tile grout looked terrible until I tried a specific trick with a steam cleaner

I used a handheld steam cleaner on the grout lines for about 15 minutes, and the grime lifted off without any harsh chemicals. Has anyone else found a good method for deep cleaning old tile?

Oh wow, a steam cleaner is such a smart idea! I had the same problem in my old apartment and went a totally different route. I mixed baking soda and hydrogen peroxide into a thick paste, scrubbed it into the grout with an old toothbrush, and let it sit for a while. It took some elbow grease but it came up surprisingly white. What kind of steam cleaner do you use?

You know what's wild? I tried the baking soda paste thing once and it left this weird gritty residue I had to rinse forever. Steam sounds way less messy, but doesn't the heat risk cracking older tile? My landlord would kill me if I damaged anything. I'm always paranoid about fixes that could backfire and cost me my deposit. Maybe testing a small hidden spot first is the move with any strong method.

I read that steam can indeed crack old tile, so @hollyscott, maybe test a corner first.

Baking soda paste was my go-to too until I tried steam.

Is it even worth the effort? Grout just gets dirty again anyway.
