Pulled up 40 year old carpet in Tulsa and found oak under it, but the tack strips took 2 hours to pry
I was ripping out the carpet in my hallway last Saturday and every staple was rusted into the wood. Has anyone found a faster way to pull tack strips without wrecking the floor underneath?

Did your friend ever try sliding a flat pry bar under the strip and rocking it up instead of pulling? My buddy did that in his rental and it popped the whole thing loose in minutes without chewing up the wood.
