Question about a guy at the hardware store and his 'perfect' paint advice
Was in the paint aisle last month, picking a color for my living room. This older guy next to me just starts talking. He said, 'You need three coats, always. One coat is for amateurs.' I told him I was just doing a touch-up on a light wall. He shook his head and walked off. Spent $80 on two gallons and only needed one can. Felt like a waste. Anyone else get unsolicited advice that cost them money?

Saw a video where a painter said one good coat beats three rushed ones any day lol. That guy sounds like he just likes to hear himself talk.

Think you might be reading too much into it honestly... I've seen that same video and the guy was actually talking about how thin cheap paint won't cover no matter how many coats you do. @keith164 probably ran into that same type though, the ones who act like they're painting the Sistine Chapel when really they're just talking about trim work. Not every painter with strong opinions is full of it, sometimes they've just dealt with too many people trying to skip steps.

That guy sounds like a real piece of work. Did he at least work there or was he just some random customer giving orders? Makes you wonder if he gets a kick out of making people buy extra stuff.

Totally agree, that guy is the worst. Had a similar dude at a hardware store once telling me I needed three different types of saw blades for one simple job. He wasn't an employee, just some random guy holding a carton of nails and acting like he owned the place. Some people just get off on feeling like an expert by bossing strangers around. Makes the whole shopping trip annoying for no reason.
