Stripping paint with a heat gun vs chemical stripper on old window frames
Overheard a guy at Home Depot last week arguing that chemicals are always faster. But I just spent 6 hours on one 1920s window frame with a heat gun and got it down to bare wood with zero mess. My buddy swears by citrus stripper for the same job but he's always dealing with drips and gloves. Heat gun needs patience though, scorched one sash corner when I got lazy. Which method holds up better long term for vintage wood? Anyone out there had a heat gun ruin a detail they couldn't fix?

Did that scorched corner sand out okay or is it still visible?

It sanded out about as well as my attempt to bake a souffle last week - technically it's gone but you can still see where it used to be. The corner's a bit thinner now so I'm calling it "character" rather than a mistake. Pretty sure the next person who uses this table will just think it's a fancy distressed finish.
