Unpopular opinion: That friendly stranger's paint tip ruined my living room walls

I was at the store getting supplies for a repaint job. A guy in line swore I didn't need primer on my old plaster. I listened to save time, and now the color is blotchy and peeling in spots. Trust proven methods over quick fixes from people you don't know.

Entire wall peeled off in sheets" sounds pretty extreme, was the wall already messed up before you painted? Sometimes you can skip sanding if the surface is clean and in good shape, like with newer paint. Maybe the real problem was bad prep work, not just missing that one step.

Oh, the classic hardware store expert. I swear they lurk in the paint aisle just to hand out bad advice. It's amazing how a thirty second chat with a stranger can lead to a week of extra work. My rule is to smile, nod, and then do exactly what the can says to do. Those quick fixes are never quick.
