Warning: My neighbor called me out for painting over mold in the bathroom
I was about to slap a fresh coat of paint on my bathroom ceiling after it got some water stains. My neighbor saw me and said I had to kill the mold first with a bleach mix or it'd just come back through the paint in a few months. He was right, I spent $12 on a mold killer spray and now I'm waiting 24 hours before I paint.

Funny enough I had almost the exact same thing happen with my own bathroom ceiling a couple years back. Your neighbor saved you a headache for sure. I tried just painting over it once and within maybe 3 months you could see the stains bleeding right through the paint again. That mold killer spray is worth every penny, just make sure you let it dry completely before you paint. Also from what I've seen, a good primer on top of the mold killer helps keep it from coming back down the road.

Respectfully disagree with you on the primer thing @blake_kelly19. I skipped the primer and just did two coats of a decent bathroom paint over the mold killer, and it's been 18 months with no bleed-through.

Right, same logic as people skipping the sealant on a brand new deck and wondering why it's gray by spring.
