Almost lost a whole project because I ignored layer standards last week
I was working on a commercial site plan for a strip mall in Austin, been drafting for about 6 years. Got handed a survey from a new engineer we hired, and his layers were all over the place, like random colors and names I never seen. I figured I'd just clean it up as I went, no big deal. But by day 3, I had pipes on the wrong layer, a foundation line mislabeled as a curb, and a mess that took me a whole Friday to untangle. The project manager almost missed a city deadline because of it. What do you guys do when you get files from someone who clearly never looked at your office's layer template?

My buddy spent three hours fixing someone else's layers and just deleted the whole file out of frustration.

Happened to me last month with a site plan from a structural guy who used his own layer names for everything. Spent a whole afternoon just fixing linework and renaming layers before I could even start my own drafting. Now I just reject any file that doesn't match our template right from the start.

Rejecting a whole file over layer names feels a little over the top, doesn't it? Seems like a quick fix instead of making everyone redo their work.
