I thought the new 3D PDF export in our CAD software was just a gimmick until a client in Boise asked for one.

Found it super useful for our remote factory team. They can spin the model around without special software, which cuts down on questions. We even caught a clearance issue someone spotted just by looking at the PDF on their phone. It's become a standard part of our review process now.

Our shop started embedding 3D PDFs in all our shop drawings last year. It cut down change requests by about 30 percent because the installers can see it clearly. That phone check is a lifesaver for catching stuff the office misses.

Oh, the phone check is a lifesaver, huh? I guess we've reached the point where a PDF file is now a high-tech tool that saves the day. It's funny how the simplest stuff, like letting someone spin a picture around, finally clicks after years of fancy software that nobody could open. My favorite part is that we all had to learn this from a client in Boise asking for it, not from the people selling us the expensive CAD package. It's always the way, the feature you ignore for years becomes the most important one once someone actually uses it.

Right there with you. We had a similar thing happen when a field guy sent a screenshot of a PDF on his phone showing a pipe that clearly ran right into a beam. Nobody caught it in the office but it was obvious once you could spin it around on a tiny screen. Sometimes the low tech stuff just works better.
