Just realized my dims were off on every wall section for 2 years

I draft commercial interiors, mostly office spaces in Charlotte. Last month I was laying out a reception desk and the contractor called me out, said my wall thickness was a half inch off from the actual drywall and stud assembly. I checked my template and sure enough, I had been using 5.5 inches when the real build was 6 inches with the fire rating layer. Nobody caught it because everything looked fine on paper, but the trim guys had to shim every single door frame in that job. The tip that tipped me off was a simple field measure I should have done way sooner, a laser disto against the finished wall before I ever set up my base file. Has anyone else had a hidden default in their blocks that just silently messed up projects for years?

...and honestly that's the part that gets me, the fact that nobody caught it for two years just because it looked right on paper. Like sure, laser is great and all, but the real issue is how easy it is to trust a block you've used a hundred times without ever questioning it. I had something similar happen with a ceiling grid once, just a tiny offset in the family that made everything line up in plan but sit a quarter inch off in reality. What finally helped me was putting a little note in the title block, like a checklist of field verified dimensions before I even start, so I'm forced to think about the actual build instead of just the drawing. It's a pain at first but it catches those silent defaults before they become someone else's problem. The trim guys shouldn't have to be the ones finding your mistakes, you know?
