My laser level gave out mid-wall, now I'm back to basics

My Bosch GLL30 died right in the middle of laying out a soffit grid for a kitchen remodel in Tacoma. I spent 20 minutes troubleshooting before I admitted I was stuck. I dragged out my old string line and chalk, and honestly it went faster than the laser ever did. Has anyone else had a tool fail at the worst moment and found the old school method was actually better?

String lines never need batteries, that's the real lesson here.
