Old draftsman at the shop said something that stuck with me

He told me "your lead weight matters more than your scale" after watching me struggle with a tracing. Switched to softer leads and my arm doesn't ache after 6 hours of drafting. Anyone else find a weird tool change that fixed a nagging problem?

Right, because apparently the universe decided that a tiny piece of graphite could save my arm from giving out at 35. Who knew a softer lead was cheaper than a chiropractor. Guess I'll just apologize to all the expensive HB pencils I abandoned in my desk drawer.

Hear you loud and clear on that one. I had the same kind of moment with my drafting pencils a few years back, was using some hard HB lead for everything and my hand would cramp up by lunch. Switched to a 2B and it felt like a whole new world, the line just flows instead of fighting the paper. It's wild how something that small can make such a difference in how your body feels after a long day hunched over a board. Glad you found that trick, saved your arm a lot of trouble down the road.

Disagree, HB gives you better control for fine detail work.
