Ran into my old drafting teacher at Home Depot yesterday
Mr. Peterson saw me grabbing a scale ruler and asked what I was working on. He told me he still uses the same drafting board he bought in 1988, just replaced the top twice. Made me realize how much of this trade is about building habits that last, not just buying new gear. Anyone else got a mentor who showed you something simple that still sticks with you?

Can't believe he's never upgraded to a new one... that drafting table must be held together with habit and hope.

Totally get that feeling. My old shop teacher showed me how to properly sharpen a chisel, and I still use that same technique even with all the new fancy sharpeners out there. It's funny how those little lessons stick with you forever.

@brooke448 I get what you're saying, but I actually think the new sharpeners do a better job for most people. Water stones are great if you have the time and patience, but a good guided system takes the guesswork out of it.
