That $50 architect scale I grudgingly bought from Drafting Steals turned out to be dead on accurate...

I was using a $10 plastic one from the craft store for 2 years on blueprints, but it was off by an 1/8th on a set of floor plans last month for a kitchen remodel. Has anyone else noticed cheap scales throwing off measurements on bigger projects?

Was the 1/8th error consistent across the whole scale or just on certain measurements?

Oh MAN that's a good question. I've messed with these scales before and from what I've seen it's usually a CONSISTENT offset across the whole range, not just random points. If the error was all over the place it would be WAY harder to fix, but a steady 1/8th is actually pretty easy to account for once you know about it.

Yeah you're totally right, once you know the offset it's easy to just add that little bit back in your head... I kept checking and rechecking because I thought I was losing my mind, but nope, the cheap scale was just consistently wrong all the way down the line.
