Thought decimal feet on drawings were lazy until a trim guy in Tacoma saved my butt
I always wrote dimensions in feet and inches on my shop drawings because that's how I learned it. Then a trim carpenter named Ray looked at my plan for a window seat and just smiled. He grabbed a scrap of 2x4 and showed me how 6.25 feet reads way faster than 6'-3" when you're stacking cuts all day. I switched for a whole kitchen job and we finished the casing an hour early. Now I'm wondering if I'm late to the party on this. Anyone else draw in decimal feet or am I the odd one out?
Does it really matter that much though? An hour saved on one kitchen job sounds like luck more than proof. Most guys I know just use whatever the shop standard is and nobody's losing sleep over it.
