Vent: My former supervisor's note about my layer stack order

Back in March, I was doing a full redraw of a commercial foundation plan in Des Moines and kept getting tangled in my own layer scheme. Walls on top of dims, dims on top of text, it was a mess whenever I needed to freeze stuff. My old supervisor, who still does CAD at 68, took one look and wrote in the margin, 'You're drawing like you're painting, not drafting. Put your xrefs first, then structural, then annotations last.' I switched my layer order to match that and honestly, it cut my cleanup time by maybe 40 percent on the last two projects. Now I always check the layer sort before I even start placing anything. Anyone else have a rule like that they got burned into their brain, or do you just wing it until the drawing fights back?
