A crane operator's comment about my swing rope changed my whole setup

Guy from the barge crew said my swing rope was too tight, called it a 'choke chain for the bucket.' I laughed it off, but after two days of fighting the current near the St. Louis harbor, I loosened it by about 6 inches on the next shift. Turns out the slack lets the bucket settle natural instead of jerking sideways on every pull. That one tweak cut my cycle time by nearly 20% on a muddy riverbed. Anyone else adjust rope tension after a random remark on site?
