Checked out a decommissioned channel in Galveston last week, the silt buildup was wild

Went down to Galveston last week to scope out an old drainage channel that hasn't been dredged in about 4 years. The silt had piled up to almost 3 feet in the middle, and you could see where the current had carved these weird little paths around it. The city rep said they budgeted for a full pass but only got half the funding they needed, so now they're stuck picking the worst spots. That got me thinking about how we all judge when a job can wait versus when it's already past the point of no return. Do you guys use a certain depth or sediment type to justify calling in a crew early, or do you just wait until the complaints roll in? Curious if anyone else has dealt with a half-funded project like that, it felt like a lose-lose.

You ever try to explain to your boss that your mud-jacking equipment is basically a fancy milkshake maker for dirt? Cause that's where I'm at with my half-funded ditch project. I mean, idk, I usually just wait till the smell hits the neighborhood association, then it's everyone's problem.
