Cutterhead changeovers used to take me all day
Back in 2008 on the Mississippi, I had to swap out a worn cutterhead on a 12-inch dredge with just a wrench and a come-along. Took me and another guy close to 8 hours with all the manual lifting and aligning. Now we use a hydraulic lift rig and quick-release pins, and I can swap one in under 45 minutes alone. What's the oldest piece of equipment you still run with that hasn't been upgraded?

Swapped an old pump with a crescent wrench and a prayer back in '99, still running that same motor today.

Point out that swapping a pump with just a crescent wrench and a prayer sounds more like luck than skill. You should have used a torque wrench and a proper gasket for that job. I bet that old motor is running on borrowed time now. A '99 fix with a prayer might hold up for a while, but it's not something I'd brag about to the next owner. Proper maintenance beats a quick prayer every time in my book.

You ever hear about my buddy Mike who patched a radiator hose with duct tape and made it last a whole decade? Sometimes you get lucky and it just works, you know?
