Picked a cutterhead over a plain suction dredge for a muddy canal job, now doubting it

I had to choose between a 12-inch cutterhead and a plain suction rig for a canal cleanup near Mobile, and I went with the cutterhead, but it keeps clogging on matted roots; has anyone else swapped back to plain suction for soft material like that?

Swear I picked the wrong tool cause roots love clogging my mistakes too.
