Pump screen clogged with a sock last Tuesday in Pascagoula

I was running a 12-inch cutterhead on the Mississippi Sound last week and suddenly the vacuum dropped to almost nothing. Shut down and found a whole sock wrapped around the pump intake screen. Took me 45 minutes to dig it out with a pry bar. Has anyone else found random junk like that in weird places?

Wait, did you check if there was a pair? My buddy found a crew sock in a culvert pipe once and three feet down the line he pulled out the matching one. Weirdest thing, like somebody just chucked them in there on purpose.

Oh man, I gotta say something here... you said "whole sock" but that's probably not right. Most pumps like that have a screen with holes way smaller than a sock, so it's more likely just part of a sock or maybe a rag that got sucked in. I've pulled T-shirts, fishing line, even a plastic bag out of mine before, but never a whole sock that could wrap around like that. The way you described it makes me think the sock was already torn or something, because a full sock would just clog the intake faster than your cutterhead could even handle. Still, 45 minutes with a pry bar sounds about right for that kind of mess... those screens are a pain to clean when stuff gets packed in tight.
