Rant: Tried a hydraulic dredge pump for a month and lost a full day of production each week
Swapped back to my old electric submersible after fighting priming issues, fouled impellers, and a blown seal on the hydraulic unit that cost me $600 in parts and 8 hours downtime, has anyone else found the electric just more reliable in tight quarters?

Sounds like the hydraulic pump spent more time broken than actually pumping. Nothing says "productivity" like $600 worth of spare parts just sitting in your truck.

a boring tool that just works is worth its weight in gold when you're on a deadline and covered in mud. all that flashy tech is just another way to spend a Saturday cussing at a wrench.

Oh man, that blows. I swear hydraulic pumps are like that friend who always borrows your truck and returns it with a new dent.
I ran a hydraulic unit for about two weeks on a cramped site and spent more time bleeding air and scrubbing grit out of the seals than actually moving water. I finally gave up after a seal let go and painted my entire truck bed with hydraulic oil. Cost me about the same in parts and a full weekend of cussing.
My electric submersible just sits in the mud and works. It's not flashy or fast, but it never leaves me stranded with a wrench in one hand and a soaked rag in the other. Sometimes boring is the best thing a pump can be.
