Saw something wild at the Port of Savannah last week

Walked past a crew running a 14-inch cutterhead dredge in the Savannah River channel and noticed they had zero overflow on their pipeline. Made me wonder how many of us are losing material through bad seals without even knowing it. Anyone else ever tested their line pressure losses on a job?

Totally agree with you there, it's frustrating when people skip the simple checks and end up wasting time and material later on. That pressure test tip is solid, it's the kind of thing you learn the hard way.

Honestly seen this too many times on jobs where guys just assume the seals are good. A simple pressure test on the line before you start can save you a ton of material loss, especially with a 14-inch cutterhead where the flow is heavy. Ngl I've had bad gaskets on the suction side cost me a solid 10% of my slurry before I caught it, and it was just a cheap rubber seal. Tbh running a test with a manometer or even a basic pressure gauge on the discharge elbow is worth the 20 minutes, beats guessing and watching the dirt fly away.
