Shift linkage cable stretch on a 36-inch cutterhead, blew my mind

Was reading the service manual for a 2008 Ellicott and it said those cables can stretch almost 2 inches over 4,000 hours, I always figured they just snapped or wore out. Started measuring mine after every shift with a caliper and sure enough, it was already off by half an inch... has anyone else actually tracked this or am I overthinking it?

Wish I could track it that close, my garage floor looks like a murder scene from all my missed measurements.
