Shoutout to the guy who told me to use a pool noodle for a dredge line float
I was working on a small channel job last week and our regular floats got lost in the truck. A guy on the crew said he saw someone use a pool noodle cut in half, so we tried it with a couple from the dollar store. It actually held the suction line just fine for the afternoon. Anyone else ever use something totally weird that worked in a pinch?

That's a solid hack for a one day job. I'd be nervous about it long term with sun damage and wear. Still, it's hard to argue with a two dollar fix that gets the work done.

Mason's right about the sun wrecking it, but honestly, that pool noodle probably has a longer lifespan than my last gym membership. I used a kid's inflatable arm floatie once for a sump pump line. Looked ridiculous, but it worked for three days until the new parts came in. You just gotta embrace the janky fix sometimes.

Longer lifespan than my gym membership" is a stretch, those noodles get brittle fast.

Mason531 must be babysitting his hardware store stash for life or something. A good pool noodle will outlast a garden hose if you aren't leaving it out in the sun for three years straight. I've got one holding up a chunk of rain gutter that's been through two winters and a hailstorm, still hasn't cracked.
