The old charts vs digital screens trade-off I never saw coming
I remember when we'd spread out paper charts across the wheelhouse and plot every pass by hand on the Mississippi River back in '08, now I just tap a screen and the GPS does all the heavy lifting. Does anyone else feel like the younger guys miss out on understanding the river bottom by relying on the computer too much?

Buddy of mine ran a tow aground up near Baton Rouge trying to follow his screen too close, ended up sitting on a sandbar that wasn't even marked on the GPS. Old paper charts would've shown that bottom change clear as day.

That sandbar probably shifted just last season from the current.
