Vent: ran my 8 inch cutterhead 40 hours before checking the wear rings
I was losing about 15 percent production on a job in Baton Rouge and blamed the pump curve for two days straight. Pulled the suction side apart and the wear ring gap was nearly a quarter inch, way past spec, so I had been fighting my own equipment for weeks. How often are you all actually miking those gaps, or is it a yearly thing for most of you?

The wear ring gap being "way past spec" without you knowing is the same thing as ignoring the oil change until the engine starts knocking, we all just hope it holds. In my experience the guys who stay ahead of it are the ones who write the hours down somewhere and check on a set schedule, not when something feels off. Your mileage may vary, but 40 hours is probably the point where those gaps start telling you things.
