Why does nobody talk about hitting 1 million cubic yards dredged?
Hit 1 million cubic yards on my cutter suction dredge last Tuesday after 11 seasons on the same river project in Louisiana. Half the crew says it's just a number, the other half thinks it should go on the boat somewhere, what do you all do when you cross a big milestone?
Watched a buddy of mine cross 2 million yards on his dredge down in Texas. He kept quiet about it, just marked the day in his log book like any other shift. Two years later the company sold that boat and scrapped most of the gear. He told me later he wished he'd painted the number on the hull or something, anything, because now there's nothing left to point at. All those years and hours and it just vanished. So yeah, put it on the boat.
