Am I the only one who used to fight a bowed stud instead of just shimming it?

I was hanging a 12-foot sheet in a Reno spec house last month and realized I was burning 20 minutes trying to force it flat. The foreman just walked by, shook his head, and said 'You're a drywaller, not a carpenter, grab a pack of shims.' Anyone else have a similar 'duh' moment with framing?

That "you're a drywaller, not a carpenter" line hits hard. It's like we get so focused on fixing the problem in front of us, we forget the actual job. I've seen guys try to correct a whole wall with compound because they didn't want to go back to the framers. You end up creating way more work for yourself just to avoid a five minute fix with the right tool.

My buddy spent an hour wrestling one last week.

Understand the struggle, honestly. Sometimes you just have to fight with a board to learn it won't sit right. That hour might save him two next time by knowing when to walk away.

An hour on a single piece of drywall? That's a marathon session right there. At that point, you have to wonder if the board itself was fighting back. It sounds like the perfect example of when stubbornness costs you half a day.
