I finally stopped sanding drywall joints until my arms went numb

Last Tuesday I had a ceiling patch in a bathroom that was only 6x8 feet, but I kept hitting low spots no matter how many passes I made. My forearms felt like rubber after 40 minutes, so I set down the pole and grabbed a work light to check my angles from the side. Turns out I was pressing too hard on the taping knife and pulling compound out of the low spots, making them worse. Switched to a lighter touch with two thin coats instead of one heavy one and the flatness came out perfect. Does anyone else catch themselves over-sanding when they're tired, or is it just me that fights the same bad habit?
