I finally tried the mud pan trick from a job in Denver

I was on a site in Denver last month and saw a guy using a mud pan with a curved bottom. He said it cuts down on air bubbles because you get a smoother pull. I tried it the next day on a 12 foot ceiling and got way fewer dimples. Has anyone else switched to a curved pan or is it just a gimmick?

Notice small tweaks in routine gear usually mean someone figured something out through trial and error.

Was he using specific mud or just regular all-purpose?

That curved pan trick is more about the technique than the tool, honestly. Plenty of guys get smooth results with a standard pan (including me) by just keeping a clean edge and not overloading the mud.
