PSA: Mud over dust on a ceiling will peel right off

I skipped cleaning the dust before applying joint compound. It all came off in big pieces once dry. Always dust the area well first.

That is a perfect lesson in why prep matters. The mud just can't stick to a layer of loose dust. Never skip the cleaning step.

Ever skip cleaning and have it backfire?

Honestly how bad could it really get though.

What saved me was a quick wipe with a damp cloth first.
