PSA: Using a wet sponge on your knife before cutting tape is a game changer

I got so tired of my tape sticking to the blade after like 3 cuts. Tried a different knife and it still gummed up. Finally just dipped a sponge in water and ran it along the blade before each cut. The tape glides off clean and I didn't have to scrape junk off every 5 minutes. Has anyone else tried this or got a better trick for keeping blades clean?

Wait is tape on a blade really that deep though? I just peel it off when it gets bad and move on, takes like 2 seconds. Feels like overthinking a pretty minor annoyance.

Wait hold up, you just peel it off and go?? Bro that gunk gets stuck in the tiny grooves of the blade after a while and will mess up your cuts. Plus the buildup can actually rust the metal if you're not careful, especially if you live somewhere humid. I've had cheap blades start skipping just from that sticky residue getting crusty. Taking two seconds now might save you from buying a new blade way earlier than you planned.

Oh man, @the_sage, I gotta disagree here. I had a buddy who used to do the same thing, just peel and go, and after a few months his blade started leaving these weird rough marks because the sticky residue had hardened in the grooves. He finally cleaned it right one time with some rubbing alcohol and was shocked at how much gunk came off. It's not the end of the world to just peel it, but that little extra effort really does keep the blade smooth longer in my experience.
