Question about the push for all lightweight drywall on ceilings

I mean, the old 5/8 inch regular board never sagged like this new stuff does, at least in my experience.

Lightweight drywall gets a bad rap, but it's not all doom and gloom. It's much easier to handle, which cuts down on time and labor costs. Sagging can happen, but that's often from poor framing or not enough screws. The weight savings make it a good choice for many jobs. Old ways worked, but new products improve over time. Your ceiling might look rough, but your back will thank you.

I totally get what you're saying about the lightweight stuff sagging. My own ceiling job looks like a rollercoaster because I tried to save a few bucks on materials. Should have listened to the old timers who swore by the heavy board. Now I've got a permanent reminder every time I look up. Lesson learned, I guess.

Hey, didn't I read that screw spacing is way more critical with the lightweight stuff? Like you gotta use more of them, especially on ceilings, or it'll definitely wave at you. That might have been the real issue, not just the board itself lol.
