Sealing torn drywall paper before taping

Put a thin layer of mud on the tear. It gives the tape a good surface to stick to.

I read that a thin mud layer stops tape from lifting!

Read the same tip in an old handbook from the library. The old timers call it bedding the tape in a scratch coat. It gives the tape something to grip right away so it stays put.

Wait, people have to READ about doing that... I just figured it out the first time my tape bubbled up. You put the mud on, let it get kinda sticky, then press the tape in. It's like the most basic part of the job.

Actually that extra step slows everything down.
