Shoutout to the 1/2 inch over 5/8 on that Schaumburg ceiling
Last month I had to pick between 1/2 inch and 5/8 inch board for a 14 by 20 foot ceiling in a Schaumburg ranch with trusses on 24 inch centers. I went with 5/8 because the sag on the thinner stuff over that span would have shown up in about a year, and the homeowner wanted a smooth flat finish. It cost me roughly $180 more in board and maybe 40 extra minutes hanging it, but the lid came out dead flat with no waviness at the seams. My shoulder hated me for two days after. Curious what span you all will run 1/2 inch on before you reach for the heavy stuff?
