Switched from blue tape to a chalk line for ceiling layouts, never going back
Ran a 2,400 square foot basement job in Dayton last month and the chalk line cut my layout time by half, plus the drywall guys stopped peeling tape off the concrete floor, but do you have a trick for keeping the chalk from smudging on dark framing?

Why would you trade a tape that stays put for something that ghosts over everything the second you breathe on it? In my experience, chalk on dark wood just turns into a permanent gray haze no matter how careful you are, and you end up spending more time re-snapping lines than you saved. Maybe you got lucky with dry conditions, but here in Ohio the humidity alone makes that stuff smear like butter. I'll take the extra fifteen minutes with tape over repainting framing any day, but your mileage may vary.
